Now, Kymirah Brown and her pit bull aXurii are seeking the community's help in a GoFundMe campaign.
Authorities told Daily Voice Brown and her dog were walking in Wissinoming on the city's northeast side on Saturday, Nov. 5 at about 7 p.m. As the pair approached the intersection of Cheltenham and Torresdale avenues, a group of kids aged 10 to 13 splashed a container of bleach at them, police said.
Brown, 20, was unharmed, but the suspects were able to steal her wallet before fleeing the area, investigators said.
But aXurii wasn't so lucky, according to her owner. Brown said the dog got bleach in her eyes, mouth, and face, and was coughing up blood the night of the attack. She can no longer see and only responds to her owner's voice, Brown added.
Now, she and aXurii are asking for Philadelphia's help to pay the veterinary bills through a GoFundMe campaign.
As of Monday, Nov. 21, the page has raised over $5,000 of its $10,000 goal, and in the two weeks since the campaign went live, Brown says aXurii is showing signs of recovery.
Meanwhile, police are also asking for the public's aid in bringing aXurii's attackers to justice. The suspects are described as three boys and two girls between 10 and 13 years old. Anyone with knowledge of the attack is urged to call 215-686-8477.
